Liaquat Pur was named once " Chau-Dari " from
Persian it is translated as "4 - windows". When Bahawalpur was a
Princely state, nawabs of Bahawalpur constructed here a big Minaret
and on the top of this Minaret there were 4 Windows, Usually seen in
Mughal or Islamic Architectures. Although after the Partition of
Pakistan and India this area was renamed as Liaquat pur in honor of
first Prime Minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan.
Liaquat pur or Liaqat pur is a town and
administrative centre of Liaquat pur Tehsil in Rahim Yar Khan
District, Pakistan. It is situated exactly between the main cities
of Bahawal pur and Rahim Yar Khan.
Liaquat pur is located on Bahawal pur – R.Y. Khan
Road at a distance of 95 km from Bahawal pur at its south-west and
at a distance of 90 km from R. Y. Khan at its north – east. It is
situated on main track of Pakistan Railway. Tehsil Liaquat pur lies
at the left bank of river Indus and KLP road
(Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar Road now known as N-5) passes through this
area. Liaquat pur town is connected to it through number of roads,
the main route being through Channi Goth at a distance of 22 km.
Liaquat Pur is the biggest Tehsil of the Punjab by area.
Liaquat pur is planned area with wide roads and
streets. All government offices, hospitals, TMA office, other
educational institutions are situated in city.
Liaquat pur was raised to the level of Town /
Municipal Committee in 1952. After the implementation of Punjab
Local Government Ordinance 2001, it was given the status of Tehsil
Municipal Administration Liaquat pur.
